As we all know we have had one SUPER TUESDAY this week and sir Barack Obama is up by only 4 delegates. YES!!!! but anyway I'm not saying who you should vote for in the least (the pic says it all - lol) but either way Hil or Obami here will do - cuz that means change is coming - well at least soon - hopefully...anyway for all those who have not or choose not to vote during the primaries - i won't say shame on you now, because you may still be torn between the two and/or haven't a clue, so try and pay attention to the debates, speeches, etc to catch up. YouTube is full of all the video you need to understand and compare (everyone and may explain why they are no longer in the running) - if thats not enough - check CNN, MSNBC and any other politically driven website/network. So please make sure you are registered in time to vote during the primaries if that is what you choose to do, but especially for that November election and make a choice that just may be one vote to change your life. My boy Jaiden "the Cure" as he has self-proclaimed is such a talented singer and songwriter. Right now he is under the radar, but has been in the game for quite sometime. Unfortunately this is how the most talented are treated - are never really be put on put on like the superstars they are, but its coming trust, time, talent and plenty patience will pay off. Jaiden def has had some cool opportunities, from being signed to Motown Records to touring with the Big Homie Young H.O. on his last stint, promoting American Gangster (i think I'm still salty about that but, anyway), that's lets you know that someone in the right place loves this boy. The best part for me at the moment is when someone as big as Jigga realized that HE was in the presence of TRUE talent as he lets Jaiden do his thing during the "Party Life" Set. Black History Month: Diahann Carroll

Diahann Carroll is a lady who I'd love to get the opportunity to meet one day. She's elegant, classy, funny and one heck of an actor. She began her acting career, in 1954, with her Broadway debut at the age of 19, in The House of Flowers. Also, that same year she debuted in film, with Carmen Jones, alongside Dorothy Dandridge and Pearl Bailey. After appearing in a number of films, in 1968 Ms. Carroll broke barriers becoming the 1st African-American to have her own show when given the starring role in Julia, which landed her a Golden Globe in 1968 and opened doors for a little brown girl like me. Through her achievements, there are now a plethora of opportunity for me to spread my wings and fly. And although there has been many a black girl show since, I'm happy that I am aware of who started it and that I have a greater chance too.

Needless to say - i feel that it a conspiracy that we as Black people get the shortest month and everyone else gets 31 days but I digress. Throwback Thursday: House Party Dance Scene

This is a classic scene from the original House Party. I remember being about 8 years old watching the reruns on TBS, feeling like I cannot wait til I get to High School so I can go to all the hottest parties with my favorite folks. I could just imagine cutting up with my many best friends at the time (You know how you have like 8 best friends when you are in elementary school lol) I used to practice the dance with my sister but could never get the whole thing. As I got older this dance scene seemed to be ingrained in all our minds as Tomar and Anthony busted out the moves one day after-school in 7th Grade right outside of the school doors on the hill leading to section 3. Yet and still if there is enough room and we are feeling good enough me and my girls will break it down like we were the originators of the moves in 1990 at the age of 17. LOL - Please peep how AJ Johnson (Jody's Mama from Baby Boy) still looks the same. OOoOOoo I can't wait to do my thing!!

Or so we should. Martin Luther King Day is a day that most people look at as a day off (which I didn't almost have off but since the O so kind folks at SLAR, LLP decided we should have off "in honor of me" -racist bastards- I too am free) but should also take time to reflect on what this man did for both you, me, our parents and even our grandchildren. Of course there were plenty of specials on over the course of the weekend that documented his legacy, his dream and great strides made in the black community but there was consistent question of doubt - which was "Is Martin Luther King Jr's dream still alive?"

Part of me says yes and another part of me asks "why hasn't his dream come true?" Yes we don't have legal segregation in school and white and black can work,live and play together but Have we really gotten anywhere monumental. As Kanye said Racism is still alive but I don't think they conceal it - at all. I feel that all though we got through the civil rights movement, Black people as whole are falling further and further back in the playing field. Our schools are all mucked up, we continue to tear our communities apart with drugs and violence, there is a lack of black owned business than there ever has been before, AND we can NEVER seem to RISE together. We are an extremely selfish people, natural born haters complaining about sh*t that we could have controlled eons ago, and seem to have given up on ourselves. I as a YOUNG black woman will say that I haven't given up but I have lost lots of hope - its like OMG I LOVE BLACK PEOPLE and then in the next breathe when I see something else stupid in person, in the media, or just a memory its more like *sigh* Why the f*ck can't we get it together?. And to me that is no where near the dream of Dr. King...

So I'm reading the Daily News today and come a across a quote that saddened me, and confirmed once again that regardless of what occupation of choice (a wonderfully talented and adored starlet) that I obtain, that my family in which I create comes first. I want to be married, have a house (doesn't have to be huge but large enough), and my little team of children to call my own. Tyra Banks is featured in the Feb issue of Essence (which I will be coping today) and is quoted as saying "I'd go to work and women would be crying in my arms...but then I'd go home and put my key in my door and....nothing. No friends, no husband, no children. I feel so full when I'm at work but so empty when I come home." I would be devastated, which she sounds, if this were me. This has to suck. She is one successful lady but this proves (like I say ALL the time) that no matter what or how much you have, it don't mean sh*t if you have no one to share it with.

P.S. Miss Tyra I'll gladly be your friend, adopted niece, child (you are old enough to be my momma) or anything else you need - I mean you are in my city now.... XOXO

WORLD AIDS DAY - DEC 1st

AIDS has been around 26 years and has claimed the lives of more than 30 million people. AIDS comes after someone is diagnosed as HIV+. HIV can be maintained, but not cured. You can contract it from sexual contact with a positive individual and intravenous drug usage. One may not have symptoms of the virus, and can very well have the virus. You cannot tell who has HIV/AIDS and who does not. As a black woman it is for me to be tested regularly, partner or no partner, and to know how this epidemic affects me.

Here are just some stats:
-AIDS is the leading cause of death of African Americans between the ages of 25 and 44
-Black women account for 72% of all the new HIV/AIDS cases in women (way too many)
-67% of black women with HIV contracted it from heterosexual sex (Get him tested too)
-African American woman are 23 times more likely to infected with AIDS than white
-African American men are almost nine times more likely to be infected with AIDS than white (9 out of 10?)

Ladies of Elegance...

To be a black starlet is challenging and each one of these ladies pull it off with such grace. Each has been in the game for over a decade and still hold a presence that is captivating. To me, each lady is of her own identity and are very different the other. They show that there can be several roles and opportunities not only in tv and film but life itself. I appreciate that these 3 match the cocoa complexion that reflects in my mirror too! From reading the article of these three friends I learned alot about the career that I have chosen for myself. When people are asked to name their favorite black actress, I don't think that anyone would be first to jump to the ladies above, but no would ever take away the credit of their talent. They each have their own sense of success and are at peace with the decisions they have made throughout their career. I realize the truth about doing the work for the passion and not for the role, and I can only pray that one day I can live up to my potential and maintain the amount of success that these 3 women have achieved combined and so much more.

Sean Taylor's Demise - No Surprise?

Sean Taylor is now one of many black youth to be gunned down and killed this year. His celebrity has allowed his death to be apart of major headlining news all week, unlike most who go unseen and unheard. He was a very successful NFL star during the 3 year span of his career, he had the potential to be considered one of the best in his time. Like many newbies he had a couple run ins with the league and paid the price of all - but he recently had a daughter, 18 months ago to be exact, and has since been trying to grow up and be the man that he knew he should be instead of a knucklehead of a rookie. He was recognized by his peers and loved by his fans and now that this 24 year old Miami native, is now dead, the media cares only to speak about his minor mistakes of receiving fines on late hits and not showing up to a rookie symposium as well as how they are NOT surprised that he got killed. Really? You're not surprised that a man - a human being - is dead? OoOooOO that's right, if one grew up in the hood, love and respect you're hood - you deserve to die just like another nigger in the hood - I forgot black people in the ghetto don't deserve or can't ever really mentally or physically rise above.

After reading several articles on Black Voices, I realized that people really still can amaze me with their insensitivity - I was just saying last night that people can be so messed up in the head and do such weird things beyond me I am no longer surprised (well I guess I was wrong) - along with the unsurprising comments of a white Washington Post columnist Leonardo Shapiro - in my opinion a typical white man in his empathetic manner sends heartfelt while still probably believes that all black people in the ghetto are savages - Michael Wilbon, an African American ESPN personality and Post Columnist definitely made it seem as though Taylor "deserved what he got". Its not like he was living in Miami, slanging and banging, harming the community - he was playing out his dream in real life - according to some he was actually leery about going back home to Miami, in fear that some who are simply mad that he has "made it" would actually come after him. That's no way to live. To me, he tried to grow up, I mean shit - he was young and naive like every other human being on this earth - who made mistakes, you live and learn - he wanted to do something to work, earn stats and recognition on top of his fame - now unfortunately he is and always will be apart of another statistic regardless of his fame.

I could only imagine this being Willie Lee Hardmon, the next best thing that comes straight out of Miami by way of Morgan State University. HE has potential to be a great NFL legend one day too and loves his city too, so which in turn no one know the outcome of his future - but I know I couldn't imagine his death not being a surprise to me regardless of where is from...

I love going the Bookstore (Barnes & Noble - especially) because it is the epitome of the melting pot of the WORLD - you can find every and anything when surrounded by books - AND you can take them home and KEEP 'em without a silly fine! On monday I ran into the bookstore to cop a DVD and ran into BORN IN THE BRONX and thought ME TOO!!! LOL - but the turntables and black and white cover is what attracted me - it screamed HIP HOP LESSON!!! I was HYPE! YESS!!!!! another book to indulge, experience and learn about all the wonderful things that were in existence cleary before I was even thought of and could remember. If its 5000 pages of words or 250 pictures compiled together I appreciate that someone took out the time to show ME my musical history - I can't know where I'm going 'til I know where I'm from!

...but who cares. I am talking to my homegirl and she reminds me that there is always someone to perpetuate the vicious cycle of n*ggas ain't sh*t!!! I had once upon a time had a strong disliking for the male species then realized well maybe they aren't so bad - but always and forever there is someone to prove me wrong. My dude, her dude, and even people who I don't even know have discouraging stories. There are people whose lives are virtually ruined by things that are going on because of a dude. I'm sure there are females out there who have f*cked up a couple heads but it seems like dudes run around and do damage knowingly and could give two sh*ts.

You have the case of the not the boyfriend or husband but the homie/lover/friend - where things for a lady may be blurry and she is always confused about what to do and what not to do. Normal women - well in the case of me and my people - tend to find that person, that one person that makes you melt and even though he may be trash - stick to it just because. Just because that's what we do. Why deal with all these people that you could care less about - when the one you want is in front of your face? Or so you think -

The one person that you think is a prize possession can be the rotten apple with a worm waiting to poke its head out - literally - He may be that person that -little do you know- can't keep his "head" to just you and him. He insist on doing him - keeping his secrets - making babies, spreading grossness, and lying. Its the best when you have a liar on your hands and knows he's lying - you've got the gut feeling but no proof in the pudding - but I aint boo boo the fool, babe. I'll sniff you out til the truth comes to pass or I find something that incriminates you and my soul. Woman can be vicious and men can be worst, I mean - MEN ARE THE NEW WOMEN, haven't you heard. Nowadays women don't give a f*ck and men are being bitches but there are some of us who are still traditional gals at heart.

So guys, please think about those other than yourself - hide your condoms, period, point, blank - whoever your are giving the business to, regardless of what they say or you think - knows what you are using with them and if you tell them that they are the "only one", until proven otherwise they will always think there is someone else. AND if there is someone else - THROW THE DAMN WRAPPERS IN THE TRASH - besides that being nasty, you are putting yourself out there for verbal execution. If you don't want to deal with that don't do it or do it better. Shit stings when it happens but let her find out afterwards when you are gone or away - please believe it will be worst. You may not even know why you got attitude, cursed out for dumb shit or the VM- but she will never forget and sooner or later you will know.

And my dear ladies, if you can- think like a dude and get him before he gets you. Or just leave them alone for a while. Maybe you need to regroup and maybe, just maybe your knight and shining armor may come your way - and if not hopefully a cutie will be able to be blessed by your presence. I mean I'm over crying over dudes and being ho-hum about situations I can no longer control. I say let go and let god. Yes deep down inside me I am probably still hurting from a few things and that person still makes me feel as though they are lower than hell itself, but to keep my sanity I must believe that there is someone normal who has all that I need out there in the random abyss of the e-world and allows me to believe the Peaches from Georgia are O so Sweet - we shall see.

I'm so sad to say that the mother of rapper/producer Kanye West, Dr. Donda West did indeed die from cosmetic surgical complications. Its been reported that Dr. West may have had known health issues involving thyroid or heart conditions and went against doctors recommendations to see an internist before getting plastic surgery. Instead of doing that she went and found a new doctor, Dr. Jan Adams, that she saw on Oprah - not to say that the folks on Oprah are not notable (my doctor was on Oprah - shouts out to Dr. Roberta Augustine McNeil) - but Dr. West Clearly didn't do her research because this Doctor had a few malpractice suits against him. Clearly she wanted the surgery really bad and did what ever to get it done. I feel that her death was kind of self-induced, she went against doctor's orders and low and behold she's no longer with us. Please people let's leave ourselves alone - love yourself for what you have - God created his child in the manner that he wanted you to be received. Its not up to you or anyone else to change that.

This is my FAVORITE song on the whole entire album - which I absolutely love as mentioned last week- This song embodies the way EVERYONE should live their lives with all those that are important to them. The video is deep, I love the connection between Common and Alicia. It seems as thought they are going through what pretty much every couple goes through, and the mistakes we all have made so with that said -You never know what is going to happen or who it is going to happen so - LOVE HARD, LIVE FULLY AND LAUGH UNCONTROLLABLY - like you'll never see them again...

I've watched you speak out on various important issues and know that you are a very intelligent man. Actors Corner: Where Tasha Meets Donna

The feisty Tasha Smith will be playing the lovely Donna Summer in a biopic based on her life. Most may know Tasha from her role as Monty's "true to the game" Ex-Wife in Daddy's Little Girls, the a** whooping mama of the thieving twins of ATL or the rambunctious drinking wife of Why Did I Get Married? either way Ms. Tasha always give you a performance you will not forget. So now that she's up to play Donna Summer who is known for her hits "Last Dance" and "On the Radio" - she also played Steve Urkel's Aunt Una from Altoona on the hit show Family Matters, which is where I discovered this 70's diva - I feel the film will be a a dramaful type cast or a groundbreaking performance for Tasha. Either way I look forward to learning more about Ms. Summer's life and seeing the motion picture.

Although I can't believe all the christmas commercials and decor springing up everywhere already, I cannot wait for This Christmas to come out in theaters, Nov. 21. I am absolutely in love and can't wait to be apart of black cinema. The cast is a full of vets in the game as it is newbies. From our favorite pop figure Delroy Lindo, super talented Regina King and the boisterous Loretta Devine to the "New New" it chick Lauren London, the English beaut Idris Elba, and the little homie Chris Brown. I am soOoOOo excited for this film not only for its wonderfuly talented cast but simply because its another quirky way to show how the black family is just as normal and dysfunctional as the next. From the previews the film seems very fun and relatable. I'm excited to make this a pre-thanksgiving date with the fam.

I'd like to send my condolences out to Kanye West and his family for the untimely death of his dear mother, Dr. Donda West. I can't imagine what it would be like to loose a mom and so young. She has proven to have a great influence on Kanye and the level of greatness he has achieved throughout his career. Many new her as a proud mother, some as a teacher, but to Kanye no one could possibly be better. She will be missed.

Album Review: Chris Breezy's Exclusive

Overall I like the Album - I am avid Chris Brown fan - LOVED his self titled debut - He shows growth in an "I'm not a kid anymore" kind of way. He of course still appeals to the younger crowd but is still able to get his grown and sexy on with big dog comparisons to like of Usher. After each listen I like Exclusive more and more. So its one of those albums that aren't an immediate "O THIS IS HOT" (well not to me) but I do like it and can see myself bouncing to the songs singing along in concert or show in love with this little star.

My Synopsis: The Tracks fall into a story line - he has his girl, adores her then mucks it up like most boys stuck in the crazy world of grabby grabby chicks and ultimately moves on lol. Some fav tracks include Take You Down (lil chris is now grown chris), With You (first hated now love - so catchy and words remind me of HS love), You and Damage (tell a story 2gether - cause and effect type stuff) and I'll call you...O yea and Down with Kanyeezy (the next single)

Only this 77 year old man would know the real truth about his own life. Ever since the amazing biopic of Mr. Frank Lucas has come about there has been people come all out of the woodworks saying that there are tall tales that lie within the film. The police officer as well as others have come up to say Frank Lucas is a liar, the movie is fake and others say that Lucas is a snitch. Well to make good film - the truth has to be elaborated - nothing is going to be verbatim instance of the past. It just can't be. I can guarantee that if the truth over 20 years was played out in the film it would a very drawn out picture. Maybe the Narco Richie Roberts didn't catch Lucas, maybe it was the NYPD - with their corrupt asses- either way, who cares, the man was caught and he did not snitch. Yes he helped the police by calling out CORRUPT COPS and Italian Crime bosses - NONE OF HIS OWN - so if anyone can tell me - what a snitch is exactly - I'd love to recieve that lesson - cause to me he did nothing wrong against his own only the ones who took his millions. Nevertheless he only spent 7 years in jail, and like a true G, rose again as an icon in the media and in Harlem. He has reinvented his self and his ways insisting that everyone should go to school, get an education, stay off the streets and learn from his life. Now at 77 he's had to make at least a mil off this movie, gets paid to interview, is starting a children's foundation similar to Boy& Girls Club and is chillin with his family once again - If thats not an American Gangster I dont know what is...

Hi! Meridith, here! Last Night after my acting Class I ran into a Magazine store called Campus News and it contained every single magazine known to man. I fell in love with everything I touched (and found my new mag spot). As I picked and pulled, I realized that the fire burning inside me was urging to talk about all the things that made me smile without thinking twice. I realized that I wanted to talk - and had a lot to say - and there is no harm in yapping away because you can, the worst thing that will happen is you don't have an audience (but that never really matters when I'm my own best company- lol). From this blog all will learn about me, what I love, like a little, dislike, dream of, admire, and all other things that make me smile, frown, laugh, laugh hard, cry (well tear), angry and concerned. I am a determined little cookie who dreams big and tries to live out those visions, I am a spontaneous day dreamer who can cook up my next best move on the spot. I am in love with my family and friends, our little chloe' and God. I try to reinvent myself, frame of mind and the world. I believe that all things can be done if you have faith and confidence in God and then yourself. As a little old lady once said to me "He is all you will ever need..."
